Daily Updates On WA Scouts Singapore Program

Dear all,

It's my pleasure to welcome all of you to Camp Kawanee. "Kawan" interprets as Friend in Malay. Camp Kawanee will be the first collaboration between Scouts of Western Australia and Singapore. We aim to strengthen our brotherhood through regular interaction, understanding of cultural differences and respect for each other. Through this Camp, we hope to set a new platform for sharing and exchanges for the benefit of our young people through Scouting.

I had personally gained much through the goodwill programmes with WA Scouts in 2007 and 2008 respectively when our local Cub Scouts visited Perth. Camp Kawanee will see a new beginning for the Scouts and Venture Section when our Sister and brother Scouts from WA embark their first visit to Singapore from 3-10 July 2009.

Some 30 Local Scouts, Ventures and Leaders, together with the 11 WA Scouts led by Mrs Sheridan Bunney and Vern Casey will participate in Camp Kawanee. They will participate in a series of activities through leadership planning and sharing of ideas over a 3D2N Camp at Sarimbun Scout Camp.

The Singapore's "Eagles Connection" namely 23 Eagles Scout Group, Soaring Eagles Scout Group and Toa Payoh Eagles Scout Group will for the first time, participate in a joint project. The 3-Eagles Group offered a cross-section of unique Scouting programmes at their Group and District level. In addition, we have the Beatty Beaver Scout Group offering their support for one of the outings.

I wish to thank all Leaders and their Scouts for their participation and trust bestowed on this project, especially at this unfavorable H1N1 situation.

I would also like to express my appreciation to Sheridan and Vern for their understanding and support to this programme. To our WA Scouts who will be on their first visit to Singapore, I welcome all of you to Singapore. Do take the opportunity to get to know more friends and try to explore, exchange and enrich yourself through our Singapore's multi-racial society.

Finally, through this blogsite, we will be putting up daily reports and uploading of photos at the end of each day, just to keep your families and loved ones know what you will be doing here. Do let them know of this link.

Do enjoy yourself and have a great week ahead.

Happy Scouting,

Desmond Foo
